성 목요일 전례의 기원과 역사 - 16세기까지 주요 로마 예식서를 중심으로 -

성주간 목요일은 전례적으로 구분되는 두 시기와 맞물려 있다. 교회는 이날 사순 시기를 마치면서 동시에 주님 만찬 저녁 미사를 기점으로 전례주년 전체의 정점을 이루는 파스카 성삼일을 시작한다. 이날 오전에 봉헌되는 성유 축성 미사는 사순 시기에 속하는 전례이지만, 저녁에 봉헌되는 주님 만찬 미사는 파스카 성삼일에 속하는 전례이다. 초기 로마 전례에서 성목요일은 다른 날과 마찬가지로 전례, 곧 미사 거행이 없는 날이었다. 4세기부터 로마에서는 이날을 참회자들을 위한 화해의 날로서 지냈다. 공적인 참회 기간을 마친 이들을 교회와 일치시키기 위한 특별한 예식 거행이 있었다. 7세기부터 성유 축성 미사와 주님 만찬 미사가 도입되 면서 로마 교회의 성목요일 전례에 큰 변화가 생겨나기 시작했다. 1955년 성주간 전례 개혁과 함께 성목요일의 전례가 오늘날과 같은 모습을 갖기까지 복잡한 역사적 과정을 거쳐야만 했다. 무엇보다 성목요일 주님 만찬 저녁 미사는 파스카 성삼일의 시작을 알리는 미사로서 그 거행의 의미는 파스카 성삼일의 본질적인 내용, 곧 주님의 죽음과 묻히심과 부활의 파스카 신비와 깊이 결합되어 있다.

The Chrism Mass consecrated in the morning on Holy Thursday belongs to Lent season liturgy, but the Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper in the evening on Holy Thursday belongs to the Easter Triduum liturgy. At the early Roman liturgy, on Holy Thursday liturgy, there was no mass unlike the other day. From the 4th century in Rome, they serve that day as to reconciliation day for the penitents. From the 7th century, the Chrism Mass and the Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper were introduced, since then starting to appear big changes in Roman Hoy Thursday liturgy. With the year of 1955 Holy Week liturgy reformation, it had to go through complicated historical process to get today’s Holy Thursday liturgy. Above all, the Evening Mass of the Lord’s Super on Holy Thursday is the Mass that notifies the beginning of the Easter Triduum. The meaning is deeply united with the essence of the Easter Triduum, which is the mystery of the Pascha; Lord’s death, burial and resurrection.
