마가복음 결말의 ‘세 여자 이야기’와 여자 제자 집단 ― 마가복음 15:40-16:4과 사복음서 비교

A Group of Female Disciples as Seen through the Three Women of the End of the Gospel of Mark

지금까지 대부분의 신약 학자들은 마가복음 결말의 주제를 예수의 고난과 죽음, 그리고 부활에 관한 것으로 생각해 왔다. 이러한 생각은 여자들의 침묵과 두려움으로 마무리되는 마가복음의 종결이 문법적으로 특이하며, 문체적·내용적으로는 갑작스럽다는 생각으로 이어졌고 수백년간 많은 논쟁을 생산해 왔다. 그리고 결말의 핵심 인물인 세 여자는 예수의 부활 소식을 베드로와 제자들에게 전하지 않은 부정적인 인물로 해석 되어 왔다. 그러나 마가복음 결말에 해당하는 15장 40절에서 16장 8절에 등장하는 주인공은 세 여자이고 주요 사건과 서사 또한 세 여자를 중심 으로 전개되고 마무리 된다. 즉 마가복음 결말의 주제는 세 여자 이야기 이다. 마가복음 결말의 주제를 어떻게 바라보느냐에 따라 결말의 사건과 메시지는 다르게 수용된다. 특히 주목할 것은 마가복음의 결말에서 예수 죽음의 유일한 목격자이자 부활 소식의 최초 전승자로 묘사되는 세 여자 들이 개인이 아닌 다른 여자들의 ‘집단’과 함께 소개된다는 점이다. 그리고 이 세 여자의 집단성에 대한 강조는 사복음서 중 마가복음에서만 두드러진다. 즉 마가는 다른 복음서와는 달리 ‘세 여자 이야기’라는 주제를 통해 여자 제자 집단의 존재와 상황을 드러내고 마지막에 이르러 어떠한 메시지를 독자들에게 전달하고자 한다. 본고는 이 여자 제자 집단이 처했던 상황과 행동이 가장 집약적으로 드러나 있는 마가복음 15:40-16:4 를 연구의 범위로 삼는다. 그리고 이들의 핵심 인물인 세 여자에 대한 서술을 나머지 세 복음서의 병행 구절과 비교함으로써 이들이 처했던 상황과 여자 제자 집단의 성격을 규명하고자 한다.

Until now, most New Testament scholars have considered the theme of the ending of Mark’s gospel to be about Jesus passion, death, and resurrection. This also led to the idea that the conclusion of Mark, ending in the silence and fear of the women, was grammatically peculiar and abrupt in terms of style and narration, and has produced many arguments over the centuries. In addition the three women, who are the key to the ending, have been interpreted negatively as people who did not tell Peter and the disciples of Jesus about the resurrection. However, the main character from 15:40 to 16:8, which is the ending of Mark, is the three women, and the main events and narrative also play out and finish with the three women. That is the theme of the ending of Mark’s gospel is the story of Three women. The reader receives the final events and message of Mark differently depending on how he or she views the subject of its ending. Noteworthy in particular is that the three women, who are described as the sole witness of the Crucifixion of Jesus and the first transmitter of the news of the Resurrection in the end of Mark, are introduced not as individuals but with the another ‘women’s group’. Moreover the emphasis on the group-ness of these three women stands out uniquely in Mark as opposed to the other gospels. In short, Mark, unlike the other gospels, reveals the existence and situation of a group of women disciples through the theme of The Story of Three Women, and at the end, it intends to deliver a certain message to the reader. This paper examines the situation and behavior of a group of female disciples, symbolized by the three women in Mark’s Gospel, by comparing the chapters of the other three gospels which reveal the women’s story most intensively. The specific scope of the study is Mark 15:40-16:4.
