무신론적 진화론에 대한 기독교신학의 이중적 응답

Atheistic Evolution: Twofold Response from Christian Theology

본 연구는 진화론과 유신론이 양립불가능하다는 무신론적 진화론의 명제를 분석하면서 무신론적 논리에 대한 논박과 동시에 신학적 자기성찰을 목표로 한다. 다시 말해 무신론적 진화론에 대한 이중적인 신학적 응답을 제안한다. 우선, 본 연구는 과학이론으로서의 진화론으로부터 형이상학적 입장으로서 무신론을 추론할 수 있다는 무신론적 진화론자들의 근본전제에 대한 비판적 고찰을 시도한다. 이와 관련해서 본 연구는 진화생물학의 연구범위의 국지성, 과학 자체의 방법론적 한계, 실증주의적 사고의 오류등을 지적할 것이다. 다음으로, 본 연구는 전통적인 유신론과 관련해서 진화론 및 진화론에 기초한 메타과학적 통찰이 정당하게 제기하는 신학적 질문들을 살펴본다. 특별히 생명의 기원과 역사에 관한 자연주의적 설명의 충분성, 우연의 연속으로 전개되는 진화과정의 맹목적성, 인본원리의 허구성 등에 관한 진화론적 통찰들과 관련하여, 이러한 통찰들을 근거로 진화론이 신 가설을 불필요하게 만들거나 심지어는 불가능하게 만든다고 주장하는 무신론적 진화론자들의 논리를 반박하는 한편, 이 같은 진화론적 통찰들이 유신론자들의 신학적 자기반성을 촉구하고 있다는 점을 역설할 것이다.

With regard to the claim that evolution and theism are incompatible with each other, I suggest twofold response from Christian theology. First, I refute the fundamental premise of atheistic evolution-that is, the scientific theory of evolution necessarily leads to the metaphysical atheism-by emphasizing the locality of the scope of evolutionary biology, the methodological self-limitation of scientific investigation itself, and the fallacy of positivistic thinking. Then, I reflect upon a few legitimate theological questions raised by the evolutionary theory and the meta-scientific insights based upon it-especially, the sufficiency of naturalistic explanation concerning the origin and history of life, the blindness of the evolutionary process consisting of a series of chances, and the incredibility of the anthropic principle. On the one hand, I object to the argument that these insights make the God-hypothesis unnecessary or impossible; on the other, I insist that they legitimately demand theists to self-critically reflect upon their traditional ideas.
