Kim Jaejoon's Political Thought

본 논문의 목적은 김재준의 정치사상의 현 시대적 의미를 파악해보려는 것이다. 김재준의 정치사상은 현 시대에 어떠한 의미를 지니고 있는가? 바로 이러한 질문을 화두로 던지고 이에 답해 보고자 하는 것이 본 논문의 궁극적인 관심이자 목표이다. 이를 위하여 본 논문은, 첫째로 그의 정치사상의 출발점, 둘째로 그 구체적인 내용, 셋째로 그 최종적인 지향점을 단계적으로 점검해본다. 이러한 단계적 점검을 통하여 발견되는 그의 정치사상의 핵심은 '자유'이다. 풀어 말하면, 첫째로 인간의 본성을 자유로 파악하는 그의 통찰력 있는 인간 이해로부터 그의 정치사상은 시작되고, 둘째로 그에게 있어서 자유가 정치 현실 속에서 구체적인 내용으로서 담겨질 수 있는 최적의 정치체제는 자유민주주의이며, 셋째로 그러한 정치적 내용들을 담아냄으로써 그가 최종적으로 지향하던 바는 전 우주적 자유의 공동체라는 것이다. 이러한 분석은, 자유를 쟁취하기 위한 투쟁가로서의 그의 현상학적 모습이나 사회적 업적을 논하기 이전에 이미 그가 자유에 뿌리를 둔 뚜렷한 정치(신학)사상적 바탕을 지니고 있었다는 것을 밝혀주며, 이에 더 나아가 이처럼 자유에 근거한 그의 깊이 있는 정치(신학)사상은 그가 살던 시대뿐 아니라 지금 이 시대, 아니 자유가 추구되어야하는 모든 시대와 상황 속에서 유효하며 필요하다는 것을 밝혀준다.

The purpose of this article is to search for the contemporary meaning of Kim Jaejoon's political thought. What does his political thought mean nowadays? This article casts this prime question and seeks to answer it. For this, it examines (1) the starting point of his political thought, (2) its concrete content, and (3) its ultimate goal. It is freedom that is discovered as the core of his political thought throughout this examination. Concretely speaking, (1) his political thought begins with his insightful interpretation in which the essence of man is considered to be freedom, (2) the most suitable political system that can actually contain freedom in this world is liberal democracy, and (3) what he ultimately pursues in his political thought is the community of freedom in the entire cosmic scale. This analysis can uncover the fact that he had already established his own profound political-theological thought before he came out as a political actor for social freedom, and that his considerate political thought rooted in freedom is effective and necessary not only nowadays, but also in the future in which freedom is pursued.
