이중구속(double bind)에 대한 목회상담학적 접근

A Pastoral Counseling Approach to Double Bind

본고는 가족치료의 개념인 이중구속(double bind) 의 개념을 시용하여 인간의 실존의 기본적 딜렘마를 이해하고 이에 대한 해 결의 방향을 모색하고자 한다. 본고가 강조하고자 하는 점은 인간의 실존의 곤경을 이해하고 해결하는데 있어서 심리학적 접근과 신학적 접근이 서로 유비될 수 있다는 가능성이다. 본고는 먼저 한 사례를 통해 가족치료의 이중구속적 이해를 설명하고，이중구속의 개념을 확대하여 인간의 기본적 곤경에 대한 신학적 이해를 설명한다. 그리고 심리학과 신학의 개념들을 함께 사용하고자 하는 목회심리학적 접근을 통하여 이중구속의 개념이 어떻게 종교적 태도를 해석할 수 있는지 보고자 한다 이어서 이중구속의 상황 및 인격적 태도를 극복하고자 하는 가족치료적 접근，신학적 접근 및 목회심리학적 접근을 소개한다. 가족치료 에서 는 분화된 의사소통을 통해 이중구속을 넘어서고자 한다(V. Satir). 신학적으로는 사람이 하나님의 초월성을 향해 나아가 그 초월성에 참여함으로써 이중구속이 극복된다고 본다 (P. Tillich). 이를 목회심리학적으로 율라노프 ( A. & B. Ulanov)는 종교적 복종이라고 부르며, 진정한 종교적 복종은 자아와 타지를 긍정하면서도 공통의 가치를 향해 초월할 줄 아는 것이라고 말한다.

This paper attempts to understand the basic dilemma of human existence and its resolution using the concept of double bind which originally has been used in the area of family therapy. The focus of this paper is to see the possibility of analogy between the psychological approach and the theological approach toward understanding the human predicament and its resolution. I introduced a case to illustrate the concept of double bind, and I extended the concept to the theological understanding of the predicament of human existence delineated by P. Tillich. Then I related these two approaches to a pastoral psychological approach to religious attitudes. Ann and Barry Ulanov uses the concept of moral masochism, which was originally developed in psychoanalysis, to a person's defensive attitude of religious life. It is a defense against a double bind situation, which in reality withdraws from religious commitment by escaping into legalistic oppression of self. In the next half of the paper I introduced the three approaches which attempt to resolve the double bind. Viginia Satir as a family therapist used a communication theory to explain the dysfunctional relations as expressed In double bind communications and to overcome them. I introduced Paul Tillich's theological approach to overcome human dilemma. He calls faith 'transcendent union' with the Spirit of God. Transcendence of God is experienced as a grace by a person, who participates in the Spirit's transcendent creativity to overcome the human predicament of double bind. Ulanov argues that a true religious submission is a transcendent attitude against a defensive sadism or masochism. Through this paper I warn against a cheap submission of a legalistic religion, and suggest that the affirmation of the self and the other is a necessary step toward a real religious submission.
