여성 우울의 심리학적 원인 연구

A Psychological Understanding of Depressed Women in Churches

우울증은 현대 세계인을 강타하는 가장 치명적인 질병인 동시에 현저한 젠더차이, 즉 여성 발병율이 남성보다 현저하게 높은 정신질환이다. 다른 정신 질환과 달리 한 개인의 심리세계뿐 아니라 사회생활·가정생활·자녀양육·영적생활 전 영역에 부정적으로 영향을 미치는 우울증은 왜 여성이 더 많이 걸리는 것일까? 이의 문제에 관심하며 이 논문에서는 교회 여성 우울의 심리학적 원인을 규명하였다. 교회 여성의 우울은 생물학적, 심리학적, 사회학적, 신학적 요인 등이 다양하게 얽히고 중첩되어 발생한다. 이에 대한 총괄적 연구를 장기목표로 세우고, 본 논문에서는 우선 여성 우울의 심리학적 원인 연구에 집중하였다. 먼저 우울증에 체계적인 연구를 시도한 프로이트의 이론을 살펴보았고, 다음으로 현대 여성 심리학자들의 우울이론을 그 역사적 맥락에서 살펴보았다. 이를 통해 교회 여성을 포함하여 여성의 우울은 심리내적 역동의 측면에서뿐 아니라 가부장적 문화에서 여성이 경험하는 자아감의 측면에서 이해해야 한다는 것을 주장하였다.

Depression is an illness which makes Christian women lose all the important virtues of Christian beliefs such as faith, hope, and love. Christian women are more vulnerable to depression than men. This paper explored Christian women’s depression from the psychological perspective. Christian women’s depression is caused by multiple reasons, biological, psychological, sociological, and spiritual. Yet, this paper most of all focused on its psychological causes. Theories of Freud and contemporary feminist theorists were discussed. Freud’s theory is gender-neutral despite its relating depression to the loss. In contrast, contemporary female theorists examined the loss of the self of women on the basis of the cultural analysis of gender. In exploring both theories, this paper intended to point out the importance of the cultural context to women, Christian and non-Christian.
