‘종교적 인간’에서 ‘신앙하는 인간’으로

From ‘Homo Religiosus’to ‘Homo Fidei’:Through Panikkar’s Critique of the Theology of Religions

본 연구는 절대적 진리를 표방하는 종교가 여럿인 현실에서 종교들 사이의 관계를 어떻게 설정해야 하는가 라는 물음과 나아가 과연 그런 판단이 진정한 신앙을 위해 어떤 의미를 지니는가 라는 물음을 관심하고자 한다. 이러한 목적을 위하여 본 연구는 종교신학에서 개진된 관계유형에 대한 논의들을 분석하고 평가한다. 아울러 그러한 논의들이 나름대로 의미를 지니고 있음에도 불구하고 한계를 지닐 수밖에 없었으니 이를 극복하기 위한 대안을 시도한다. 구체적으로 소위 배타주의, 포괄주의, 다원주의로 분류되는 유형들을 대표하는 주장을 담은 연구물들을 분석한다. 그러나 본 연구는 이들 중의 어느 하나를 택하여 지지하면서 다른 입장들을 반박하는 방식으로 입장표명을 하기보다는, 오히려 각 입장이 그러한 현격한 대조와 차이에도 불구하고 공교롭게도‘하나의 종교’라는 몰역사적인 허상의 전제를 공유함으로써 바람직한 종교적 정체성을 위해서는 오히려 모두 적절하지 않다고 비판한다. 그리고 그 대안으로서 인간에게 개체적인‘신앙’이라는 범주를 통해‘삶의 다름과 믿음의 뜻’이 얽히도록 해야 하며 이를 위해‘종교적 인간’이‘신앙하는 인간(homo fidei)’으로 전환되어야 함을 역설한다. 이 대목에서 위의 유형분류를 넘어서는 신앙적 각성을 위한 통찰을 시도하는 파니카의 연구를 주요한 전거로 사용한다. 우상 파괴를 향한 그의 신학적 성토가 한국 교회를 향해서도 소중한 깨우침이 될것이기 때문이다.

The purpose of this study is to discuss the question concerning the relation of various religions claiming absolute truth and the significance of such relations for authentic faith. For this purpose, this study analyzes the existing discussions on the relational typology of religions such as exclusivism, inclusivism, and pluralism. However, this study does not choose one among others and support it by opposing the others; rather, it claims that none of the existing positions are appropriate for a desirable relation of religions. For although they are remarkably different from one another, they inevitably share in common the unrealistic assumption of ‘one religion’for all different individual believers by using one and the same name of religion. Thus this study tries to figure out a more desirable and appropriate alternative by suggesting the transformation of the humans from ‘homo religiosus’to ‘homo fidei’for more authentic sense of faith. For this transition, this study uses the relevant works of Raimundo Panikkar, whose vigorous voice of iconoclasm is expected to contribute to the awakening of Korean Christianity characterized by narcissistic idolatry.
