영국 브루더호프 공동체의 평화적 영성과 교육

Peaceful Spirituality and Education of Bruderhof Community, UK - Focused on the experience at Darvel and Beechgrove

본 논문은 영국의 다벨과 비치그로브에 위치한 브루더호프 공동체 삶에 관한 참여관찰을 통해 조망해 본 기독교 대안교육의 성격에 관한 일상생활분석연구(ethnomethodological research)이다. 본 연구는 2006년부터 2008년까지 일년에 일회 직접 방문하여 생활하면서 기술한 현장연구이다. 브루더호프 종교공동체가 주는 교육학적 함의는 교육과 공동노동, 영적 생활, 기도, 찬양, 놀이, 약자를 보호하는 이타적 행동 등이 유기적으로 결합되어 있다는 점에서 홀리스틱 교육의 전형이다. 따라서 브루더호프 공동체의 기독교 대안교육적 특징은 초대 기독교정신에서 유래한 공동생활에 따라 융합적이고 개방적인 기독교교육의 성격을 지닌다는 점, 교육에 있어서 결과보다는 과정을 중시한다는 점, 비폭력적 갈등해결을 강조하는 평화교육의 장이라는 점, 적극적이고 융통성있는 교수학습방법을 사용하는 대안적 교육현장이라는 점, 교사-학부모-공동체가 함께 하는 작은 생태교육 공동체라는 점 등이다.

This paper put an emphasis on what an alternative Christian education is and what’s going on the daily lives of two Bruderhof Communities in Darvell and Beechgrove in UK. The methodology is ethnomethodological research through participatory observation once a year during three years 2006-2008. The educational implication of religious Bruderhof community combines with working together, education, spiritual life, praying, singing, playing, solidarity with others is characterized as followed: it is holistic and inclusive, open-ended Christian education according to the communal life originated from the early Christianity, focused on process rather than results in education, comprehensive peace education coping with conflicts in general, practicing alternative educational methods based on active and flexible learning methodology together with teachers and community, and it is small school oriented beyond bureaucratic educational operation.
