Harmonious Strife and Strife toward Harmony:Process Social Ethics Implied in Its Aesthetic Understanding of Truth

이 글은 공동체를 위한 공동선(Common Good)은 가능한가 하는 기본 물음을 안고, 그것에 대한 답으로 과정사상의 사회윤리사상을 제시한다. 먼저 오늘날 널리 퍼진 사회정치윤리사상을 세 가지 모델로 분류하여 분석한 후, 이것들 모두 <다원성 가운데에서의 해방>이라는 사회윤리학적 과제를 담당하는데 문제와 한계가 있음을 밝힌다. 그리고 대안적 모델로 “조화로운 투쟁 그리고 조화를 향한 투쟁”이라는 개념을 제시한다. 이 모델은 유기체를 전체상에서 파악하고자 하는 과정사상의 미학적 진리론에 기초하고 있는 것으로서, 그 윤리사상의 궁극적 이상으로 <평화>를 설정한다. 이 평화는 우주적 관계망 속에서 타인에게 빚지지 않고서는 존재할 수 없는 강탈의 존재론적 현실에 대한 반성을 전제하며, 또한 그 강탈의 관계에서 내밀린 약자에 대한 참회와 헌신을 요청한다.

This paper raises a basic question of whether a “common”good is possible for a community and its members and presents a process social ethic as an answer. It first classifies three dominant contemporary social ethics and analyzes them in order to reveal their problems and lacks in accomplishing the socio-ethical task of liberation in plurality. Then, it suggests the concept of “ harmonious struggle and struggle toward harmony” as an alternative model. This model is based on the process aesthetic theory of truth that attempts to grasp the whole connectedness of organic relations and represents “peace”as an ultimate ethical ideal. In the process ideas, the concept of peace presupposes critical reflections on robbery-relations necessary in the ontological condition of all beings in the cosmic web of existence and therefore requests repentance and devotion for the sociologically and ecologically marginalized in the robbery-relations.
