The Tradition and Theological Legacy of Korean Ecumenical Movement

이 글에서 나는 한국 에큐메니칼 운동의 전통과 신학적 유산을 밝히려 한다. 기독교는 처음부터 교회와 세상의 일치를 추구했고 이 일치는 평화와 정의를 내포한다. 일찍이 신약성서는 온 피조세계와 우주만물의 화해와 일치를 말했는데 세계 에큐메니칼 운동에서는 최근에 창조세계와 우주만물의 일치를 말하게 되었다. 한국 기독교는 동서문명의 창조적 만남과 융합의 과정으로서 생겨났고, 역사와 사회의 중심과 전면에 나서는 한국 민중은 기독교 신앙과 복음을 적극적으로 받아들였다. 조선왕조가 몰락하고 일제에 의해 식민화가 이루어지는 과정에서 민주적인 현대국가를 건설하려는 민족지도지들, 안창호, 이승훈, 조만식, 유영모, 김재준, 함석헌 등은 기독교 교파와 종교들의 벽을 넘어 민족의 일치와 평화를 위해 헌신한 기독교인들이었다. 이들이 한국 기독교 에큐메니칼 운동의 선구자와 모범이 된다. 교회, 민족, 인류, 자연생명의 일치를 추구하고 세계평화의 비전을 제시하고 실천했던 김재준, 함석헌, 문익환의 삶과 사상에서 한국 에큐메니칼 운동의 전통과 신학적 유산을 확인한다. 김재준은 신학적 주체성, 생활 신앙, 역사 참여적 신학, 우주적 사랑의 공동체에 대한 비전을 제시했다. 함석헌은 한국 민족정신과 기독교 신앙을 결합함으로써, 풀뿌리 민주철학과 세계평화사상을 제시하고 민주화운동에 헌신했다. 문익환은 기독교의 핵심 교리인 의인론을 생명과 평화의 대통합 원리로 파악하고 민족통일, 인류통일, 생명통일의 길을 열기 위해 헌신했다.

The writer tries to find the tradition and theological legacy of korean ecumenical movement. Christianity from the beginning seeks out the unity of church and world, that includes justice and peace. There are many sayings about the reconciliation and unity of whole creation and universe in New Testament. But WCC began to talk about the unity of creation and universe. Korean christianity came to be out of meeting and fusion of east and west civilization, korean minjung coming out at the center and front of history and society, accepted the gospel and faith of christianity actively. In the process of destruction of Chosen Dynasty and colonization of Korea by Japan, national leaders Ahn Chang Ho, Lee Seung Hoon, Jo Man Sik, You Young Mo, Kim Jae Joon, Ham Suk Hon are faithful christians, who dedicated themselves to the liberation, unification, democratization and peace of nation beyond the walls of denomination and religions. They are forerunners and examples of korean ecumenical movement. The writer finds out the tradition and theological legacy of korean ecumenical movement in the life and thoughts of Kim Jae Joon, Ham Sok Hon and Moon Ik Hwan, who were seeking after the unity of church, nation, human being and life of universe. They presented and practiced the vision of world peace. Kim Jae Joon tried to establish the authenticity of theology, faith of life, participation in history, community of cosmic love. Ham Sok Hon integrated korean spirit and christian faith, and dedicated himself to democratization movement. He presented philosophy of grassroots democracy and thoughts of world peace. Moon Ik Hwan, who understood doctrine of justification by faith alone as the principle of great unification, dedicated himself to unification of nation, human beings and life of whole world.
