Acceleration of 3 Generations a Year under Field and Non-heating House Conditions of Spring Barley

This study was conducted to investigate the effect on shortening spring barley cultivation into three generations a year under field and unheated (vinyl or glass) greenhouse conditions in Iksan, Korea. Two-rowed spring barley varieties, Jinyangbori and Doosan 29, were tested in this experiment. Sowing dates were October 25, 30, and November 10 in winter season; April 25, 30, and May 5, 10, 15 in spring season; and August 16, 20, 25, and 30 in summer season. Heading date of Jinyangbori and Doosan 29 sowed at late October was early-mid March in glass house and late March to early April in vinyl house and grain filling period was 36 to 49 days. When barley varieties were sowed in late April to early May, heading date was early-mid June. At August 16 and 20 sowing or transplanting, heading date was September 17 to 23. Heading date of Jinyangbori and Doosan 29 in winter cultivation was different in high temperature and long day conditions of spring and summer cultivation. Three-time harvests a year of spring barley varieties were feasible without heating in Iksan province by combining cultivation in unheated green house in winter season and field cultivations in spring and summer seasons.
