Hanmaeum is a new super-yielding japonica rice cultivar developed from a three-way cross of Milyang165, YR16365Acp13 and Iksan438 at Honam Agricultural Research Institute (HARI), RDA, in 2004. This cultivar has about 119 days growth duration from transplanting to harvesting. Hanmaeum has short grain shape with translucent and non-glutinous endosperm and about 19.1% of amylose content and high palatability of cooked rice. This cultivar shows resistant reactions to the bacterial leaf blight pathogen races (K₁, K₂, K₃) and leaf blast. The milled rice yield of Hanmaeum is about 6.43 MT/ha as high as Dasan, a representative super high yielding tongil type rice culltivar, under the heavy fertilization cultivation. Hanmaeum would be adaptable for the middle plain and the Honam plain area of Korea.
