A new peanut cultivar “Sangpyeong” (Arachis hypogaea ssp. hypogaea L.)was developed at the Yeongnam Agricultural Research Institute, NICS, in Milyang in 2005. It was developed from a cross between the high-yielding cultivar “Palkwang” and the very short stem cultivar “Satonoca”. “Sangpyeong” with Virginia plant type has more branch number with early flowering and ellipse-shaped large kernel, compared with the check cultivar. Each pod has two grains with brown testa and 100 seed weight was 89g in the regional yield trials (RYT). This cultivar also showed more resistance to early and late leaf spots and web blotch compared with the check one. Especially it has resistance to lodging owing to short stem. In the regional yield trials, “Sangpyeong” outyielded the check cultivar by 14% with 3.94 MT/ha for grain.
