Biomi is a new sweetpotato variety developed from Mokpo Experiment Station, National Honam Agricultural Experiment Station (NHAES), RDA in 2003, which was for the utilization as feed and food for storage root of high moisture content and fast fleshed up. This variety was selected from the cross between MI9208-16 and Hi-starch in 1996, seedling and line selections were practiced from 1997 to 1998, and preliminary and advanced yield trials were carried out from 1999 to 2000. The regional yield trials were conducted at six locations from 2001 to 2003. Biomi has slightly lobed cordate shape of leaf, green vine and petiole, green axillary of vine, elliptic shape of storage root, light red skin and whitish yellow flesh of storage root. The average yield of storage root was 36.5 ton/ha in the regional yield trials, which was 60% higher than that of Yulmi variety. Biomi was fast fleshed up variety, that yield from cultivation for 90 days in field was 20.6 ton/ha which was 59% higher than that of Yulmi variety. This variety can be planted in all sweetpotato production regions.
