A New Sweetpotato Variety for Raw Eating and Processing, “Happymi”

Happymi is a new sweetpotato variety developed from Mokpo Experiment Station, National Institute of Crop Science (NICS), RDA in 2004, which was for the raw eating and processing. This variety was selected from the cross between Chinmi and MA 3 in 1996, seedling and line selections were practiced from 1997 to 1998, and preliminary and advanced yield trials were carried out from 1999 to 2001. The regional yield trials were conducted at six locations from 2002 to 2004. Happymi has cordate shape of leaf, green vine and petiole, elliptic shape of storage root, brown skin and light orange color flesh of storage root. The average yield of storage root was 37.0 ton/ha in the regional yield trials, which was 52% higher than that of Sinhwangmi variety. Number of storage roots over 50 gram per plant was 4.1, and the average weight of one storage root was 162 gram. This variety is resistant to Fusarium wilt and nematode.
