A New Spray Carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus) Cultivar, “Pavo”

A new cultivar of Dianthus caryophyllus “Pavo” was selected from the progenies of a cross “Sarangbyul” and “Target White” in 1997 at the National Horticultural Research Institute, Rural Development Administration. It was finally selected in 2001 after the investigation of the characteristics for four years (1997-2001). “Pavo” was developed for a cut flower with a spray type. Flower color was orange with purple edge, and “Pavo” has a very short days to flower, a good fragrance scent, and a few petal. Optimum temperature for its growth are over 8℃ at night and under 25℃ at day. The cultivar had been applied for a variety protection 2001 and was released to the growers and commercialized in 2002.
