Breeding of Red Color Rose, “Pearl Red” with Good Color and Shape

A new standard rose cultivar “Pearl Red” was bred from the cross between red standard cultivar “Red Sandra” and orange-red standard cultivar “Baroness” at the National Horticulture Research Institute. It was crossed in 2000 and finally selected in 2004 after the investigation of the characteristics for three years from 2002 to 2004. “Pearl Red”, red standard flower, has a vigor growth and good vase life. The major characteristics of this cultivar is 127 stems/m²/year in yield and 34.3 in petal number, 12.2 days in vase life. The propagation methods is cutting and grafting. The consumer’s preference of this cultivar is relatively higher than that of control cultivar.
