A new Asiatic lily “Maro” was released by the National Horticultural Research Institute (NHRI), in 2002. A cross was made between Asiatic lily “Compass”, a spotted and orange colored variety, and “Avignon”, an unspotted red variety. The flower characteristics and performance of “Maro” were examined from 2000 to 2002. “Maro” flowers in middle of June, but can flower year-round by storing the bulb under −1 to −2℃ conditions. It has deep orange petals with spots. The width of flower is 16.4 cm. The weight and size of bulb are 45.8 g and 16.2 cm, respectively. For forcing culture, it is necessary to add calcium to the fertilizer or remove side scales to prevent leaf scorch. It is needed to control Botrytis disease in wet season.
