A new pea cultivar, Sanghyup was developed at the Yeongnam Agricultural Research Institute (YARI) in 2004. It was selected from a cross YP402 (Milyang 2/Wensume)/Milyang 1 in 1994. The advanced and regional yield trials for evaluation and selection of this line (Milyang 18) was carried out from 2001 to 2004. It has a white flower, yellow cotyledon, non-curved pod shape, irregular seed surface, and yellow seed color. It is resistant to root rot disease while the check variety is susceptible. The fresh pod yield of Sanghyup is 7%(fall sowing) higher than that of Sachul with 14.15 ton per hectare in the regional yield trials carried out at three locations of Korea from 2002 to 2004.
