A New Sprout Soybean Cultivar, “Nogchae” with Green Seed Coat and Green Cotyledon

  • 10

A new sprout-soybean cultivar, “Nogchae” was developed from the cross between Pureunkong and Milyang 44 by the soybean breeding laboratory of the Honam Agricultural Research Institute in 2004. The preliminary, advanced, and regional yield trials for evaluation and selection were carried out from 2000 to 2004. Nogchae has a determinate growth habit having white flower, brown pubescence, green seed coat, green cotyledon, yellow hilum, and oval leaflet shape. Nogchae is adaptable for dense planting culture because of it’s short plant height and less branch number. The maturity date of Nogchae is 16 days earlier than that of a check variety, Pungsan. It’s seed has a good quality for soybean-sprout. The soybean-sprouts cultured from Nogchae contain high isoflavone (3.8 mg/g) and amino acid (326 mg/g). The 100-seed weight was about 9.2 g. The variety showed resistance to lodging and to Soybean mosaic virus, a severe soybean disease. The regional yield trials for double cropping carried out for three years from 2002 to 2004 showed that the average yield of Nogchae was 2.19 ton per hectare. The maximum yield of Nogchae with double-cropping and dense planting was estimated to be 2.8 ton per hectare.
