“Hayanmi” is a new sweetpotato variety developed from Mokpo Experiment Station, National Institute of Crop Science(NICS), RDA in 2002, which was for the utilization as food with storage root and culinary vegetable with purple petiole. This variety was selected from the cross between Hongmi and Unduandopa in 1995, seedling and line selections were practiced from 1996 to 1997, and preliminary and advanced yield trials were carried out from 1998 to 1999. The regional yield trials were conducted at six locations from 2000 to 2002. “Hayanmi” has slightly lobed cordate shape of leaf, purple vine and petiole, purple axillary of vine, elliptic shape of storage root, dark red skin and white flesh of storage root. The average yield of storage root was 26.7ton/ha in the regional yield trials, which was 16% higher than that of Yulmi variety. Number of storage roots over 50 gram per plant was 4.6, and the average weight of one storage root was 118 gram. Petiole yield of “Hayanmi” was 9.82ton/ha which was 65% higher than that of Yulmi variety. Purple petiole of “Hayanmi” had high anti-oxidative activity, which was two folded higher than that of Yulmi variety. This variety can be planted in all sweetpotato production regions.
