『월인석보』 권두 부속문자의 서지

A Philological Study on the Front Matters of Worinseokbo(月印釋譜)

『월인석보』 권1 앞에는 「훈민정음언해」, 「팔상도」, 「석보상절서」, 「월인석보서」, 「패기」가 실려 있다. 본고에서는 이들을 권두 부속문자로 지칭하고, 이들 부속문자의 편철 순서와 각 부속문자에 대한 문헌 서지적 성격을 밝혔다. 권두 부속문자 가운데 앞의 셋은 『석보상절』에서 온 것이고, 뒤의 둘은 『월인석보』 편찬 시에 새로 들어간 것이다. 『월인석보』에서 「월인석보서」는 「석보상절서」의 뒤에 놓여 있지만, 이 책의 서문으로서의 시각적 효과를 높이기 위하여 다른 부속문자들과 행당 자수를 달리하고 굵은 서체를 사용하였다. 「훈민정음언해」는 『석보상절』의 권두에 실려 있던 것을 가져온 것인데, 『월인석보』의 체재에 맞추어 版下를 새로 써서 목판으로 간행하였다. 그 판각 과정에서 수제에 ‘世宗御製’를 덧붙이는 판하의 수정이 있었다. 이 수정은 뒤의 「패기」에서 「월인천강지곡」과 「석보상절」의 지은이를 명기하게 된 사실과 관련된다. 「팔상도」는 『석보상절』의 「팔상도」 판목을 재사용한 것이다. 「석보상절서」는 『석보상절』에서 온 것이지만, 말미의 수양대군 이름자인 ‘유’만을 ‘諱’로 바꾸었다. 「월인석보서」에서 한자 독음과 원문 구결을 다는 방식이 「훈민정음언해」나 「석보상절서」와 달라진 것은 한글문헌 편집 체재의 시대적 변화를 반영한 것이다. 그동안 「패기」라 불러온 것은 佛壇에 봉헌하는 木牌를 그림으로 그린 것인데, 이 목패 그림은 經牌와 願牌의 두 가지 기능을 겸하며 동시에 書扉의 역할도 담당한다.

The front matters of Worinseokbo(月印釋譜) Volume I includes Hunminjeongeum- Eonhae(訓民正音諺解), Palsangdo(八相圖), the Preface of Seokbosangjeol(釋譜詳節序), the Preface of Worinseokbo(月印釋譜序) and Paegi(牌記). This study examined the binding order of these front matters and the philological nature of each front matter. Among the five front matters, the first three came from Seokbosangjeol, and the last two were inserted newly in the compilation of Worinseokbo. In Worinseokbo, the Preface of Worinseokbo is placed after the Preface of Seokbosangjeol, but in order to produce a visual effect as the preface of this book, it used different number of characters per line and bold style compared to the other front matters. Hunminjeongeum Eonhae came from the front of Seokbosangjeol, but was published as a block-printed edition with drafts rewritten in accordance with the format of Worinseokbo. In the engraving process, the draft was revised by adding ‘Sejongeoje(世宗御製)’ in front of the title ‘Hunminjeong- eum(訓民正音).’ The revision is related with the fact that the authors of Worincheongangjigok and Seokbosangjeol were specified in following Paegi. Palsangdo of this book reused the printing blocks of that of Seokbosangjeol. The Preface of Seokbosangjeol came from Seokbosangjeol, but ‘Yu(유)’ at the end, which is the name of Prince Suyang, was changed to ‘Hwi(諱).’ The way of adding the pronunciation of Chinese characters and the oral particles of the original texts in the Preface of Worinseokbo was changed from that in HunminjeongeumEonhae or the Preface of Seokbosangjeol, and this change reflects the alteration of the Hangeul text edition format over time. What is called Paegi is the drawings of wood plates dedicated on the Buddhist altar. These wood plate drawings played two functions as ‘sutra label’ and ‘wish plate’ and, at the same time, played the role of title page.
