인성교육의 체화적 접근과 실천 방안

An Embodiment Approach for Character Education and Its Practical Implementation

인성교육의 목표는 학생들에게 실천‧체험 기회를 단순히 제공하는 수준을 넘어서 인간다운 삶을 실현하는 데 필요한 삶의 기술(skills) 또는 노하우(know-how)를 ‘체화’하는 데 두어져야 한다. 이와 일관되게 인성 교육을 통해 길러내고자 하는 인간상은 ‘인간다운 삶의 기술 혹은 노하우가 체화됨으로써 즉각적, 자발적으로 행위할 준비가 된 사람’으로 설정될 필요가 있다. 이러한 입장을 뒷받침하기 위해 본 연구에서는 심신을 병행하는 수신과 수양을 통해 삶의 기술로서의 덕을 체화‧체득 할 것을 강조한 ‘유학적 전통’ 뿐만 아니라, 도덕심리학, 인지과학 및 신경과학 분야 등에서 이루어진 경험적, 실증적 연구 성과를 포괄적으로 활용하여 논의를 전개할 것이다. 끝으로 인성교육에서 추구하는 인간상 구현을 위한 ‘체화적 접근 모형’을 제시한 후, 이러한 모형의 실천적 적용에 필요한 교사와 학교장의 실천 역량에 대해 논의할 것이다.

The objective of character education should be to embody life skills or ethical know-how necessary to realize a living worthy of human dignity beyond the level of providing the opportunities for practical experiences. In a coherent and consistent manner described in the objective, the ideal image of the educated person in character education needs to be defined as a person who has a readiness-for-action proper to every specific lived situation by the embodiment of life skills or ethical know-how. For the purposes of my argument, I will use the findings of previous studies conducted in the areas of moral psychology, cognitive science and psychology as well as the confucian tradition. Lastly, I will present a character education model based on the embodiment approach, and discuss the education competencies of teachers and school principals for the effective implementation of this model.
