박은식 <안중근전>의 문학사적 성격과 영향력

박은식은 과도기의 인물이다. 본고는 이에 주목하여 박은식의 <안중근전>이 지닌 문학사적 성격을 해명하고, 이후 텍스트에서의 수용 양상을 통해 그 영향력의 정도를 검토하고자 한다. <안중근전>은 한문 산문 갈래인 ‘전’을 표방하면서도 인물의 생애 뿐 아니라 시대의 변화와 당대의 정세를 담아내려 하였다. 중국인 독자를 고려해야 했기 때문에, 한문으로 쓰고 한국사에 대해 더 상세히 서술해야 했다. 이는 박은식의 <안중근전>이 일화와 역사관을 보다 풍부하게 담을 수 있도록 했다. <안중근전>은 한국어로 번역되고 영화 제작에 활용되는 등의 영향력을 발휘하기도 했다. 번역의 사례로는 『독립신문』과 김하구의 <만고의사 안중근전>이 있고, 활용의 사례로는 김택영의 <안중근전>과 영화 <애국혼>이 있다. 번역에서는 번역자의 의도에 따른 축약, 첨가, 배제 등이 확인된다. 창작에 활용한 경우에도 사정은 크게 다르지 않지만, 갈래 특성에 따라 그 양상은 달라졌다. 그럼에도 불구하고, 박은식의 <안중근전>이 당대에 가장 신뢰되었음 은 분명해 보인다.

Park Eun-sik is an intellectual who lived in the tumultuous period of cultural transition. Therefore he wrote works under the environment which the new and old cultral devices were mixed up. From this viewpoint, this paper would clarify the historical characteristics of his An Chungeun jeon (安重根傳) and elucidate the influence. An Chungeun jeon is not a orthodox piece, although entitled by traditional type, because it has some peculiarities which is not unseen in ordinary works. For example it concentrated on the historical background and foreign situation. And it was written in classical Chinese unlike his precedent works. Those transformations could make his work contain more plentiful anecdotes as a result. An Chungeun jeon was translated into vernacular Korean several times and utilized as references of works in those days. It was translated as a newspaper serial in 1920, and published by another newspaper company in 1917. The film Aegukhon (Patriotic Spirit; 1928), made by Koreans in Shanghai, was said to have been based on it. It is clear that An Chungeun jeon was accepted as a representative of reliable biographies in thoes days.
