Sports Nationalism of Sohn Kee-chung

이 연구는 현 시대를 살다간 손기정의 사진 속에서 스포츠내셔널리즘을 찾아본 것이다. 손기정은 일제강점기에 태어난 조선의 마라톤 선수였다. 그는 1936년 베를린올림픽에 출전하여 세계기록을 갱신한 최고의 영웅이었다. 그런데 감격스러운 우승의 시상대에 올라선 그의 모습은 마치 단두대에 올라 온 죄인처럼 비참한 모습이었다. 조선(Korea)의 국민들은 세계 제패를 한 마라톤의 영웅, 손기정을 통하여 감격과 함께 조선의 자부심을 가졌지만 한편으로 죄인과 같은 손기정의 우승 장면으로 인하여 항일정신과 독립운동의 계기를 가지게 되었다. 日章旗抹消事件이 바로 그러한 예이다. 이 연구는 2시간 30분대를 최초로 깨뜨린 세계기록 갱신자보다 일제에 대항한 고개 숙인 슬픈 영웅, 그 ‘침묵의 항거’ 그리고 세계 곳곳에 사인한 ‘손긔졍과 Korea’ 그리고 ‘한반도 그림’, 이러한 그의 흔적들을 새롭게 평가하고자 하였다.

This study is to inquire into the sports nationalism in Sohn Kee-chung’s photos. He was Chosun(Korea)’s marathon runner born in the Japanese forced-ruling period. He was a hero who joined in the marathon competition in the 1936 Berlin Olympics and broke a world record of marathon. However, in the victory stand, he seemed to feel miserable like a criminal stood in guillotine. The people of Chosun had a pride in the full flush of triumph by way of Sohn Kee-chung, a hero who won the marathon championship. On the other hand, the people of Chosun inspired anti-Japanese independence movement due to his stand similar to a criminal. The erasion of the national flag of Japan in his news photo is a good example. In short, this study is to examine ‘silent resistance’ of a drooping who broke a time of about two hours and thirty minutes in marathon, and also to reevaluate his traits such as his autographs, ‘손긔정(Sohn Kee-chung’s Korean name) and Korea’, and ‘the drawing of Korean peninsula’ by him.
