The study focuses on the statements made by Yoshida Shoin on the Korean Peninsula, and analyzes the statue from the perspective of “Korean Peninsula theory,” which was spread mainly by the association of clans in the Shimokuchi prefecture. Yoshiro Fukumoto’s “Yoshida Continent and Southern Progression”(1942) is an important document in terms of international relations with modern Korea and is a publication worth analyzing to grasp the image of the time. His purpose of the “continental and southward theory” was Japan’s imperialistic national policy, which was to be established by Japan, South Korea, Manchuria and China as a whole, reaching the South Sea Bay, India, Africa and Australia. Shoin’s overseas expansion theory revived in the early 20th century, and for him, “continent” was indeed the rule of Asia as a whole, and the first step to that was the rule of Korea. In order to understand Shoin s thoughts on the invasion of Korea, he and his disciples analyzed letters about the “exploration of Ulleung Island.” Matsunaga sent four letters in total, two of which werefor Takashi Kido about the development of Ulleung Islandand the other two of which werefor Genji Kusaka.
