적응학습 시스템을 활용한 대학 교양수학 수업이 학습자의 정의적 태도에 미치는 영향

The effect of mathematics course applying an adaptive learning system on affective attitudes for college students

본 연구는 대학의 수학수업에서 학습자의 개별적 특성을 고려해 학습콘텐츠를 차별적으로 제공하는 적응학습 시스템을 개발하고, 학습자의 정의적 태도(자신감, 흥미, 학습의욕) 측면에서 적응학습 시스템의 효과를 검증하고자 하였다. 연구결과, 첫 번째, 적응학습 시스템은 학습관리시스템(LMS)에 Rule based 설계를 기반으로 적응 학습 모듈을 도입하고 평가 알고리즘을 포함해 개발하였다. 적응학습 평가 알고리즘은 학습자의 문제풀이 정답여부에 따라 차후 문제의 난이도를 달리하고, 매주 학습자의 수업이해도 수준을 진단하고, 그 결과에 따라 맞춤형 피드백을 제공하도록 개발되었다. 두 번째, 적응학습 시스템의 효과를 검증하기 위해 경기도 소재 G대학의 교양수학을 수강한 116명을 대상으로 16주간 적응학습 시스템을 운영하였다. 적응학습 시스템을 활용한 수학 수업의 효과를 검증하기 위해 학기 시작 전과 후 수강생을 대상으로 수학에 대한 자심감, 흥미, 학습의욕을 조사하였다. 분석결과, 자신감과 흥미는 통계적으로 유의하지 않았으나 학습의욕은 유의하게 향상되었다. 적응학습 시스템을 활용한 수업이 학생들의 수학교과에 정의적 태도에 부분적으로 긍정적 효과가 있음을 확인하였다. 적응학습 시스템 개발과 효과검증 결과를 바탕으로 적응학습 시스템의 효과적인 활용과 교육적 시사점을 논의하였다.

The purpose of this study is to develop an adaptive learning system applied to mathematics courses in liberal education and to examine the effect of the course on self-confidence, interest, and learning engagement for college students. For the purpose, an adaptive learning module was instituted in the Learning Management System and an adaptive learning algorithm was developed. The algorithm was designed to differ the level of difficulty of the next problem depending on whether or not the answer of a prior problem was correct. It was used to exactly diagnose how much students understand what they learned. The informative and prescriptive feedback to students was provided. 116 students enrolled in the mathematics course applying adaptive learning system were participated in this study. Pre and post test of self-confidence, interest, and learning engagement were carried out. The result of the study showed that post learning engagement was significantly higher than pre learning engagement whereas post self-confidence and interest were not significantly higher than pre self-confidence and interest. It implies that adaptive learning system partially contributes to improve affective attitudes toward mathematics for college students. Implications of the study were discussed.
