The Influence of Exercise Continuity on Physical Function and Depression in elder Women

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of continuous exercise on physical function and depression of elderly women, and to provide a basic guideline for the welfare and rehabilitation policy of the aged. The subjects at the G sport center in seoul, were 60 elderly women who participated in an exercise program(swirnming, aerobic) more than six times per week, 50 minutes per day, over a period 6 months, and 60 elderly women who did not participate in exercises. The result of the test were analyzed by x^2 -test, t-test, discriminant and classification analysis and correlation of SAS package program. The result of this study were as follows : First, there was a significant difference in blood pressure, heart rate, balance, flexibility, abdominal muscle strength between the elderly women who continue to exercise and those who do not (P <.05, P <.001). In addition, a comparison of the effect of the exercise on each of the physical factors is given, in decreasing order, as stroke volume, flexibility, grip strength and heart beat rate. Second, the elderly women who continue to exercise have high scores in agitation and cognitive efficiency, compared to those who do not. The difference is statistically significant (P <.05).
