Meaning of Railway space Culture

본 연구의 목적은 철도문화라는 것을 우리 삶에서 어떻게 해석할 수 있는지, 시민들의 철도이용 경험을 관찰하여 그 함의를 규명하는 것이다. 철도는 우리 근대사에 중요한 역사적 산물일 뿐만 아니라, 우리 생활과 불가불리의 중요한 인프라 중 하나이며, 과거에서 현재까지 우리생활을 지탱해 온 하나의 문화범주로서 이해해야 하기 때문이다. 그러나 철도문화의 개념이나 의미가 무엇인지 학술상 논의한 사례가 희소하기 때문에, 지금까지 논의한 유사한 개념을 검토하고, 이용자들의 경험을 관찰하여 철도문화가 무엇인지 설문조사하여 규명하였다. 분석결과 철도문화는 ⅰ) 여행･휴가･풍경의 정감성, ⅱ) 볼거리, 쇼핑 등 다양한 경험을 할 수 있는 이동성의 공간, ⅲ) 사이다･우동･달걀의 상징성, 그리고 ⅳ) 근대화의 출발점이라는 역사성으로 해석할 수 있었다.

The purpose of this study is to identify the meaning of railway space culture in our lives, and how we should interpret its meaning based on the railway and its space experience of citizens. Railway has great importance in modern history and is one of the most essential infrastructures in our lives. This paper aims to interpret railway space culture under the premise that it is a cultural category which has greatly influenced our lives from past to present. Despite its importance, there hasn t been any research conducted on the concept or the meaning of railway space culture so far. Thus this paper aims to compare and study similar domestic and foreign discussions on the concept of railway space culture based on nationwide surveys. Based on such analysis, it was concluded that the interpretation on railway space culture can be summarized in four basic features : closeness, mobility, symbolism, and historicity.
