燕巖 문학 연구의 새로운 향방

The New Direction of Study in Yeon-Am Literature

본 논문은 燕巖이 도달한 사유의 깊이, 글쓰기 수준을 21세기의 현실에서 새롭게 읽어내는 작업이 필요하다고 보아 필자 나름대로 고민한 연암 문학의 방향성을 이야기해 본 것이다. 연암 문학의 새로운 방향에 대한 시각은 연암 정신과 현재와의 연결이라는 관점에서 이루어졌다. 연암 산문의 방향성과 관련해서는 연암의 사유와 문학이 오늘날과 연결되는 정신을 고민해 본 결과 生命, 生態, 다양성, 해체를 꼽았다. 연암의 생명과 생태 사상에 대한 태도는 문명과 사회에 대한 깊은 이해 속에서 이야기되고 있기에 동양의 전통 사상과는 결을 달리한다. 또한 연암의 상대론적 인식에는 上下의 위계질서와 差等 的 세계관을 극복하여 존재의 평등을 구현하고 삶의 다양성을 실현하려는 인식이 담겨 있으므로, 연암의 인식론을 민족의 차원에 머물게 하지 말고 인류 보편의 차원으로 끌어올릴 수 있도록 심화해 나가야 한다. 연암의 경계의 인식론을 해체의 미학과 연결할 가능성에 대해서도 살펴보았다. 熱河日記의 방향성과 관련해서는 열하일기에 나타난 장소성에 주목하여 공간의 정치성, 공간의 사회 역사적 의미 등과 연결해 접근할 것을 제안하였다. 다음으 로는 ‘작은 것’을 다르게 보는 연암의 눈을 따라가, 열하일기 속 작은 것들에서 의미를 찾아갈 것을 제안했다. 특히 筆談에는 연암의 의도를 구현하기 위한 허구적 대사도 개입되었을 여지가 많고 상상력이 가미되었을 가능성마저 배제할 수 없기 에, 중국인의 입을 빌려 자신의 생각을 전달하는 연암의 의도에 주목해야 한다. 더불어 경계의 인식론을 열하일기에서 더욱 깊게 탐구해가야 한다. 나아가 열하일 기는 다양한 분야와 적극적인 협업이 필요하며 비교문학의 관점에서 다른 여행기와 적극적으로 비교해야 한다. 열하일기는 모험 여정의 성격이 강하고 寓言的 요소가 많으므로 여행기라는 관점에서 벗어나 모험 서사의 관점, 그리고 寓言 문학의 관점에서 접근해 볼 필요도 있다. 요컨대 연암의 산문은 ‘현실에 대응한 진실하고 투철한 글쓰기’의 지점을 명확하게 보여준다. 연암의 산문 탐구는 고전 산문의 부활과 연결되어 있으며, 우리가 자랑할 만한 文豪를 증명해가는 일이기도 하다.

This is the result of my own deep consideration on study direction about Yeon-Am, considering new approach to the depth of Yeon-Am’s thought and his level of writing in terms of the 21th century’s current point of view. This view is deeply taken from the connection of between Yeon-Am spirit and the present. The new direction of Yeon-Am’s writings can be summarized as life, ecology, diversity, dissolution in the result of considering the connect point of the present spirit with his thought and literature. His attitude to life and ecology is something different from oriental philosophy, for he talks about them in terms of civilization and society. And his relativistic consideration overcomes vertical hierarchy and the view point of difference, it leads to the equality of existence and contains the variety of life, so his theory of consciousness shall be provided to the universal concept of the world, not keeping his theory of consciousness within the boundary of nationality. His theory of consciousness about the boundary is studied with possibility to connect with aesthetic of dissolution. When it comes to the new direction of ‘Yeol-Ha-Il-Gi’, this study stresses on placeness, connecting with the politicality of place, social and historical meaning of it. And then according to his view to see tiny things with different aspects, it seeks for the meaning in these tiny things of ‘Yeol-Ha-Il-Gi’. Especially Yeon-Am might have possibility to use fictional talks to reveal his intention with his imagination, so this study turns focus on his intention to take advantage of Chinese tongues. Furthermore in this ‘Yeol-Ha-Il-Gi’, the theory of boundary consciousness shall be more investigated deeply. ‘Yeol-Ha-Il-Gi’ is to be cooperated with other fields and to be compared with other travelogue in terms of comparative literature. ‘Yeal-Ha-Il-Gi’ has the characteristics of adventure and of allegory, it is recommendable and necessary to approach in a way of adventure narrative and allegory literature. Yeon-Am’s writings reveal clearly the point of ‘true and throughout writing upon reality’. His research of prose writing is connected with the revival of classics prose, and it is the meaningful process to prove great writer to be proud of us.
