This essay aims to analyze my experience of teaching British culture to undergraduate students, trying to share it with the teachers who want to use British novel in teaching British culture. This article includes choice of textbook, choosing major issues of British culture in the text, weekly lecture contents, students’ presentation, their assignment of essay writing, their evaluation for the British culture class, and the analysis of the evaluation. The first part discusses teaching culture through literature with attention to the final objective of the culture class, that is, enhancing students’ thinking abilities. The second part focuses on how a British novel, Mark Haddon’s The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time (2003), is a good text in teaching British culture. The novel has major issues in British culture, such as rural England, university education, the educational system, and social welfare system with a lot of other cultural issues. This essay also investigates an auxiliary textbook and reference books. The second part explores the management of the British culture class. It focuses on students’ participation and activities through presentation and discussion in small groups in classes. The third part examines students’ evaluation of the class and the analysis of their reponses.
