A Study on the climate articles of Samguksagi

천변지이로 인한 기상의 이변은 고대부터 인간의 활동과 농경에 많은 영향을 미쳤다. 따라서 그들은 천재지변에 대하여 두려움과 숭배의 감정을 가졌다. 『삼국사기』나 『삼국유사』 등의 내용을 보면 삼국은 일찍부터 천문관측에 큰 관심을 가졌으며 관측술 또한 발달하였음을 알 수 있다. 본 연구는 필자가 기왕의 연구에서 미루었던 천재지변 기사 중 기상이변의 내용을 살펴본 것이다. 천변지이 기사 중 일식, 지진 등 의혹과 두려움의 대표적 기사에 비하여, 서리, 우박, 벼락 등 기상이변의 기록은 수적 빈도와 관심도 적었다. 그러나 이상 난동과 기상의 이변은 기근과 질병으로 민심을 크게 흉흉하게 하였으며, 이러한 자연의 변이는 통치자의 도덕적 행위와도 밀접한 연관이 있다고 생각하였다. 특히 천둥과 함께 보이는 궁궐과 사찰의 벼락(震)은 왕의 죽음과 죄인에게 내리는 하늘의 벌로 여기며 많은 승려들로 하여금 반성의 기도를 올리게 하였다. 또한 慶雲, 紫雲 등 오색의 구름은 겨시조의 사당이나 호국의 성소로 여겼던 산악에 피어올라 국운이 크게 융성할 것을 예시하는 상서로운 현상의 하나로 여겼다. 자연지리적 환경의 차이와 더욱이 통일신라기를 포함한 삼국간의 기상관계 기록은 정치적 상황과 문화의 성격 등 다양한 내용을 전하고 있다.

Change of the climate directly affects on human’s lifestyle and living. People in ancient time, who were familiar to nomadic life, adjusted themselves to the variation of seasons. Consequently, they had complex feeling toward change of climate and heaven, such as doubt, fear, worship, etc. In fact, 30% of Samguksagi’s articles are about climate change. This investigation doesn’t include Sun, earthquake, rainstorm, drought, etc in Samguksagi’s articles about climate change, that was done previously. According to building of Chumsungdae in Shilla’s King Seondeok or the work of Kokuryeo, Baekje’s Ilja Ilkwan (people whose job were to observe the Sun’s change), it is notable that observation of the heaven and job of Ilkwan were considered essential from the beginning of Samguk era. Change of climate directly influences on fatigue and farming, leading to famine and loss of lives. As a result, the king considered the change of climate a bad omen, forgiving prisoners or distributing crops, and comforted people, looking back his responsibility. Especially, drought caused by Yellow Dust, Acid Rain, or sudden temperature increase in winter, and red tide are considered a crucial factor to study for understanding characteristics of climate and culture of ancient Korea Peninsula.
