<하생기우전(何生奇遇傳)>; 점복(占卜)과 기우(奇遇)의 서사

Hasaenggiwoojeon(何生奇遇傳); the narrative intention of the fortune telling and the extraordinary wedding

본고는 <하생기우전>의 비현실적 요소로 알려진 점복(占卜)과 기우(奇遇)의 서사적 의미를 살피고, 이를 토대로 신광한의 가치 태도와 서사 지향을 고찰하였다. 선택 불가능한 상황에 직면한 하생은 점복을 통해 현재적 상황에 대한 인지적 지도(cognitive mapping)를 그려봄으로써 행동의 지침을 마련하고 삶의 동력을 확보하고자 했다. 하생은 점복을 통해 명이(明夷)와 가인(家人)의 괘(卦)를 얻었다. 명이는 흙으로 밝음을 덮으라는 괘이고, 가인은 돌아가 쉴 곳인 집을 찾는다는 의미의 괘다. 하생은 점복처럼 명이를 실천함으로써 아름다운 배필을 만나고, 그녀의 정정함으로 행복한 결말을 얻는다. 그러나 이런 점복의 실현은 비현실적 일을 통해 현실의 문제를 손쉽게 해결하는 것을 의미하지 않는다. 오히려 불확실한 삶에서 직면한 문제를 해결하기 위해 노력하는, 주인공의 실천적 자세에 초점이 맞춰져 있다. 신광한은 <하생기우전>의 점복과 기우의 서사를 통해 자신의 명(命)을 믿고 실천하는 성리학적 삶의 태도를 형상화하였다. 불합리한 상황에서 행동의 방향을 결정한 후에 기미(機微)를 살피고, 깊이 생각하여[愼思] 밝게 판단하며[明辯], 굳건한 의지로 독실하게 실천[篤行]하는 성리학적 삶의 태도를 제시한 것이다. 이것이 <하생기우전>에 담긴 유자 신광한의 서사 지향이며 가치 태도이다.

This thesis aims to research the meaning of the fortune telling and the extraordinary wedding as fantastic factors in Hasaenggiwoojeon. In addition, this thesis studied on the purpose of writing as Shin’s value toward life and narrative intention in Hasaenggiwoojeon. Hasaeng tried to map the cognitive mapping for the future situation. And also, he find out the actional guidelines in the present uncertainty. This is the reason why he divined. As result, he got the Myeongyi(明夷) and Gayin(家人) trigram from the Book of Changes. The Myeongyi(明夷) trigram implies that he pretend to be a fool or a madman. And the Gayin(家人) trigram implies that he will meet a woman and marry with her. In reality, he followed the trigram and extraordinary met a beautiful and virtue woman. At the end, he married with her in the work. As this Hasaenggiwoojeon ended with the happy ending like the fortune telling. Although the happy ending plot, the divination is not important factor. The most important thing is Hasaeng’s efforts. Shin, the writer of Hasaenggiwoojeon, tried to tell the importance of human beings’s efforts in the uncertain world. He want to say that there is no misfortunes or fails in life. If human beings make efforts to overcome the present situation. Shin told that man should observe the circumstance carefully, think meticulously, judge wisely, and behave devoutly. Man believe in the future and practice in life. This in the gist of Hasaenggiwoojeon and Shin hoped to speak to the readers of Gijaegiyi. And also, it is the narrative intention of the fortune telling and the extraordinary wedding in Hasaenggiwoojeon(何生奇遇傳)
