This study was to investigate the effect of climbing activities on the skin condition of middle-aged women. A survey was carried out on 426 women aged 40~59 years. The SPSS version 21.0 was used for the analysis of data. 93.0% of subjects answered that they make use of sunscreen before climbing. For the purpose of climbing, ‘to prevent lifestyle disease’ was the highest by 30.0%. After climbing, the scores for dryness, fine wrinkles, coarse wrinkles, pigmentation, noticeable pores, dark circles, decreased elasticity, tired skin and bad makeup were significantly increased. Subjects experienced drying/pulling, flushing, burning, stinging, tanning/tired skin and shininess during climbing. When compared to those subjects who practiced skin management after climbing, those subjects who did no skin management showed a significant worsening of fine and coarse wrinkles. In conclusion, the results of this study showed that, in middle-aged women engaged in climbing, climbing influenced skin condition. Further study is needed to determine the long-term effects of outdoor activities such as climbing for the prevention and management of aging skin in middle-aged women.
