A Study on Secondary Wave Form to Variation in Spark Plug Gap in a Gasoline Engine Unloaded and Loaded Mode

  • 1

In the combustion of a premixed ignition engine, the initial combustion period is a very important period, and many studies on the combustion of spark ignition engines have been focused on this period. Factors affecting this period include spark plug gap, displacement, air fuel ratio, the performance of the ignition system, revolution per minute, cooling system, valve timing, the length of the suction pipe, exhaust pressure, atmospheric pressure, temperature, and humidity. These factors have a direct or indirect impact on the performance of an internal combustion engine through interaction or composite behavior, and in particular, spark plug gap affects the formation of spark kernel and the characteristic of ignition secondary waveform, and plays a very critical role in the following combustion process. Accordingly, this experimental research examined in how secondary ignition voltage is affected when discharge is made by changing spark plug gap earth and the central gap without changing the existing ignition system, and analyzed the effect on secondary waveform.
