다문화 학생의 정보활용능력 특성 분석

An Analysis on Information Literacy Traits of Multicultural Family Students

본 연구의 목적은 다문화 학생들이 학교 공부를 어려워하는 이유를 정보활용능력 측면에서 분석하고, 성공적으로 학교생활에 적응할 수 있는 방안을 제안하는 것이다. 이를 위해 서울지역 소재 6개 중학교 2학년 학생 515명(다문화 학생 63명)을 대상으로 과제 분석, 정보 접근, 정보 분석, 정보 종합 및 표현, 정보 평가, 정보 윤리 등으로 구성된 정보활용능력에 대한 설문 조사를 실시하였다. 분석 결과 다문화학생들은 정보활용능력의 6가지 요소 중 정보 접근과 정보 분석에서 비다문화 학생에 비해 낮은 점수를 보였다. 이것은 다문화 학생의 경우 해결해야 할 과제가 주어졌을 때 적절한 정보원을 찾는데 어려움을 겪고 있으며, 찾아낸 정보원의 내용을 이해하고 이를 과제 해결에 활용하는데 비다문화 학생에 비해 더 많은 어려움을 겪고 있음을 보여주는 것이다. 또한 다문화학생의 인구ㆍ사회학적 특성별 정보활용능력 차이를 분석한 결과 다문화 학생의 생활수준별, 학업성취도별로 과제 분석과 정보 분석에서 큰 차이를 보였다. 특히 생활수준이 정보 접근 영역과 유의미한 상관성이 있음을 확인하였으며, 아버지의 국적이나 출생지보다 어머니의 국적이나 출생지에 따라 정보활용능력 차이가 큰 것으로 나타났다. 이는 다문화 학생들에게 학습 방법으로서 정보활용능력을 체계적으로 지도할 필요가 있으며, 가정 형편에 상관없이 정보 접근에 필요한 학습 자료를 이용할 수 있는 환경을 제공하고, 멘토링 및 유관기관과 연계하여 다문화 가정 학부모에 대한 교육이 필요함을 시사한다.

The study aims at analyzing the reasons why multicultural family students have trouble in adapting to schools in terms of information literacy and suggesting proposals to adapt successfully to their school life. The study showed that multicultural family students scored lower on information access and information analysis out of 6 factors of information literacy than non-multicultural family students. The finding demonstrates that multicultural family students, compared to their counterpart, have difficulty exploring proper sources of information needed to solve given problems and that they have more difficulty both understanding the information they have acquired and applying to the process of problem solving. The study also analyzed multicultural family students’ information literacy by sociodemographic characteristics, which showed big difference in problem analysis and information analysis according to their standard of living and academic achievement. In particular, the standard of living correlated significantly to the field of information access. In addition, the nationality or birthplace of their mother had a greater influences on their information literacy than that of father. The result suggests that the government should provide systematic information literacy education and learning environment to freely access to information regardless of their family circumstances for multicultural family students. On top of that, the government should enlighten multicultural family parents through cooperating with mentoring and related organizations.
