In some European and Korean companies, computer numerical control (CNC) programs and processes using counterclockwise rotation are commonly taught. Most educational institutions in Korea, however, teach only clockwise rotation. In this paper, the 1) characteristics of CNC machining using clockwise/counterclockwise rotation, and the 2) differences in surface roughness are discussed. We argue that counterclockwise rotation is preferable, and that we want to promote this method in education.
