A Study on Activating the Coastal Passenger Routes in Philippines

This study is to suggest an appropriate political guidance needed to activate the industry of coastal passenger shipping in Philippines where the sea transport is vital nautical highway for the country as logistics way for the carriage of passengers and goods especially since it is consisted of numerous small and large islands across the nationwide. In order to achieve the goal of this purpose, the questionnaires were used against the coastal passenger shipping firms and applied statistical analysis methods of factor and stepwise multiple regression analysis against the variables between dependent and independent factors extracted from the literature review and status of the present industry. The analysis results revealed the management and vessel operation infrastructures are most influence factors, then the government‘s supporting policy and law & regulation restructuring are also essential to activate the coastal passenger routes in Philippines.
