북한 미술의 유의미한 담론 구성을 위한 제언 - 웃음 코드를 중심으로 -

Suggestions for constructing meaningful discourse in North Korean art - Focusing on Laughter Code -

북한의 미술가들은 심한 제약과 검열 속에서도 주체미학의 사상성을 정서적으로 설득시킬 수 있을 만큼 고도로 훈련된 묘사력을 갖추어 현대 미술의 어느 장르에도 속하지 않는 독창성을 만들어 내었다. 이 글은 조선화의 제한된 형식적 한계를 극복 하며 독자적 양상을 모색하는 가운데 주체미학의 최적화된 도구로 사용하고 있는 웃음에 담긴 코드에 주목하고자 한다. 웃음으로 매개된 세 가지 코드, 즉 1)위선과 기만에 대한 탈-권위적‧ 비판적 웃음, 2)환상성이 공존하는 웃음, 3)감성 정치 속의 웃음을 검토한다. 북한 미술에서 웃음에 내포된 의미, 체제선전 전략으로서 예술의 기능 분석이 이어진다. 이는 동시대의 미술에서 다뤄지고 있는 웃음에 대한 담론 및 표현방식들과 교차 분석될 것이다. 이러한 논의를 바탕으로 논문은 북한 미술에 대한 균형 잡힌 평가를 위한 담론의 조건을 제시하고자 한다. 　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　

In the midst of severe constraints and censorship, North Korean artists have created a highly trained depiction to emotionally persuade the ideology of Juche aesthetics, creating originality that does not belong to any genre of contemporary art. This article focuses on the laughing code that is used as an optimized tool of Juche aesthetics while for North Korean artists seeking its own way and overcoming the formal limitations of Chosun painting. I will examine the three codes that are mediated laughter, namely, 1) de-authoritarian and critical laughter against hypocrisy and deception, 2) laughter in which fantasy coexists, and 3) laughter in emotional politics. This will be followed by the analysis of the mplications of laughter in North Korean art, and the function of art as a regime propaganda. This will be cross-examined with the discourses and expressions of laughter that are being addressed in contemporary art. Based on these discussions, the paper aims to suggest the conditions of discourse for a balanced evaluation of North Korean art.
