1920~1930년대 강릉지역 사회운동의 전개 양상

이 논문은 3.1만세운동 이후 강릉지역 사회단체 결성 목적과 활동, 그리고 전개과정을 살펴본 것이다. 1921년 결성된 강릉청년회는 지역 계발(啓發)과 진보적 지역 사회 발전 도모를 목적으로 결성되었고, 체육활동 중심의 계몽적 성격의 사회운동을 펼쳤다. 1927년 11월 강릉청년회 해체 이후 강릉청년동맹이 결성되면서 강릉지역 사회운동은 새로운 양상을 띠었다. 이후 순차적으로 결성된 신간회 강릉지부, 근우회 강릉지부, 강릉농공고독서회, 강릉농민동맹, 강릉농민적색조합, 강릉 조선공산당재건동맹 등은 항일독립이라는 궁극적 목표 아래 청년계몽운동, 농민운동, 사회운동 등을 전개하였다. 1927년 신간회강릉지부는 민족주의와 사회주의 성향의 사람들이 합작하는 형태였다. 이후 강릉지역 사회운동은 점차 사회주의 인사들이 주도해 가는 모습으로 나타났다. 이러한 사실은 전협계(全協系) 출신인 강익선과 조국환 등이 강릉농민동맹 결성을 주도한 이후 신간회에 참여하였고, 강릉공산청년동맹 결성과 활동에 적극 참여한 사실을 통해 알 수 있다. 따라서 강릉지역 사회운동의 흐름은 1920년대 초는 강릉청년회를 중심으로 계몽적 성격의 청년운동을 전개하였고, 1925년 이후 농민운동으로 변화되었으며, 1927년 신간회가 구성되면서 좌우 협력 형태로 전개되다가 1930년대에 접어들면서 농민․노동자를 위한 사회주의 운동으로 확산되었다.

The Gangneung Youth League staged an enlightened social movement, mainly focused on sports activities. The Shinganhoe s Gangneung branch organized in 1927, is in the form of a joint venture between nationalist and socialist figures. The center of the social movement in Gangneung gradually began to be led by socialist figures. Kang Ik-sun and Cho Kuk-hwan, former members of the Jeon Hyeop Gye(全協系), participated in the new association after leading the formation of the Gangneung Peasants Alliance Therefore, the Gangneung Youth League carried out an enlightened youth movement, the Gangneung Farmers Alliance launched a farmers movement, and after 1927, the Shinganhoe s Gangneung branch carried out a social movement in the form of cooperation between the left and the right. And entering the 1930s, a socialist movement for farmers and workers spread in the Gangneung area.
