The purpose of this study is to analyze research trends on Japanese tourism in Korea and to draw up implications for future research directions. As the absolute number of Japanese tourists visiting Korea has been declining recently and the axis of the Korean tourism industry is moving toward Chinese tourists market, concerns yields that reduction in research subjects could cause a decrease in research activities. However, tourism is also a cultural activity that cannot be only approached by business, and it is narrow to focus on specific markets. The number of dissertations on a particular topic is good indicator of how active research activities will be in the future. The titles of a total of 247 dissertations awarded from 1983 to 2019 were analyzed and the network structure of the words constituting the title was analyzed to discover a large semantic system surrounding Japanese tourism. The thesis was linked to Seoul, beauty, hotel and women, focusing on words such as tourism, tourists, Japan, Korea, and visitation, and was frequently linked to marketing terms such as decision making, satisfaction, comparison and selection attributes. The findings showed that tourism research was biased toward a particular subject and that the marketing approach was taken mainly despite tourism’s academic nature of interdisciplinary, and it is also feared that the Japanese tourism-related research had been an instrumental tool to draw the customer in Korean Market.
