The aim of this paper is to analyze and examine what translation strategies are used to cope with the non-equivalence of culture-specific items. To achieve this end, this paper chooses many modern Korean poems and several Korean short stories that have a number of culture-specific items. To analyze translation of culture-specific items, nine proper translation strategies are chosen from the Mona Baker, Vinay & Darbelnet, and Newmark s theories. It is not easy to translate culture-specific items.Translators need fluent and accurate language skills for both target and source languages, but even more importantly, translators should possess the capability to convey exact understanding and similar feeling that source readers enjoy for target readers, much more critical thinking.
