  • 83

The purpose of this study is to explore the educational philosophy of taekwondo leaders who are working in South Korea and China. In-depth interviews were conducted to explore their perceptions and their individual cases. Educational philosophy, purposes and methods that subjects perceived were analyzed in depth, and the following findings were obtained. First, in terms of educational philosophy contained within the purpose of taekwondo practice, both Korean and Chinese taekwondo leaders uniformly answered that they focused on martial arts and character education. Second, educational philosophy was divided depending on the method of practice into two types: one was teaching martial arts, and the other was character education. Third, the meaning of educational philosophy in terms of the perception of leaders was found to be similar to the first and second findings: whether to find a method for the purpose of education, or to add education for the purpose of commercial gain. Taekwondo is one, but each taekwondo leader seeks different meanings in taekwondo, and different educational effects. They were found to be situated within the educational philosophy of taekwondo leaders.
