기형도와 90년대

Gi-Hyung-do and the 90s -Form of disillusionment and ‘proverbs’ instead of ‘declarations’

기형도를 읽는 일은 그의 시 작품을 읽는 일뿐만 아니라, 그의 이른 죽음은 물론 죽음 이후 일종의 신드롬이 되어버린 ‘기형도 신화’를 해석하는 일을 모두 포괄한다. 그리고 그것은 90년대를 80년대와의 연관 속에 읽는 일이기도 하다. 본 논문은 이러한 전제 하에 기형도 시를 ‘환멸’이라는 키워드로 읽으며 90년대 이후 시집을 접한 세대에게 그의 시가 80년대에 관한 ‘도덕감정’을 환기하는 과정을 분석하고자 하였다. ‘노년의 주체’가 드러내는 ‘환멸’이 90년대 초반의 집합감정으로서의 ‘환멸’과 공명하는 지점을 분석하였고, 고백형 잠언투의 문장들이 이전 시대 ‘선언’의 기능을 대체하는 것으로 해석될 수 있음을 밝혔다. 이 글은 기형도라는 젊은 시인의 돌연한 죽음, ‘환멸’의 형식과 고백투의 ‘잠언’에 기댄 기형도의 실제 텍스트, 그리고 87년 민주화투쟁으로부터 91년의 5월의 분신정국으로 이어지는 한국 사회 변혁 운동의 실제 사정 등을 밀접한 관련 속에서 읽는 것을 목적으로 기획되었다. 이러한 세 가지 계기들을 상호 참조하고자 하는 이 논문의 작업이 유의미해지기 위해서는, 90년대 초반의 시기에 기형도를 직접 읽었던 세대들의 독서 체험이 적극 규명될 필요가 있다. 이러한 기획의 부분적 작업으로 이 글은 기형도 시 텍스트 자체를 분석하는 일에 집중한다.

Reading Gi Hyung-do covers not only interpreting text, but interpreting his death and “Gi Hyung-do syndrome”. This is related to reading the 90s in connection with the 80s. With this assumption, this article reads GI Hyung-do’s poem with the keyword ‘disillusionment’. Through this work, this article analyzes the process by which readers reading GI Hyung-do perform mourning for the 80s. This article analyzes the disillusionment revealed by the ‘elderly subject’ of Gi Hyung-do with the ‘disillusion’, a common emotion of Korean society in the early ‘90s. And that proverbial sentences can be interpreted as a substitute for the function of the ‘declaration’ of the ‘80s. This article aims to read Gi-Hyung-do’s sudden death, his text, and the actual situation of Korean society at that time in close relation. To make this work meaningful, the reader s experience of reading his poetry in the early 90s should be directly referenced. When the individual experiences of the young people who read his poetry can be explained by universal experience, the assumptions in this article can be proved to be true. As a partial work of this project, this article focused primarily on analyzing Gi Hyung-do’s poem itself.
