문화이벤트가 유럽정체성 형성에 미치는 영향: 유럽문화수도 Valletta 2018 사례연구를 중심으로

The Impact of Cultural Event on the Creation of European Identity: A Case Study of the European Capital of Culture Programme ― Valletta 2018

유럽연합(EU)은 통합의 완성을 위해 유럽시민들로 하여금 통합에 대한 관심을 높이는 것이 필수불가결하다고 판단했고, 그 결과 1990년대부터 문화프로그램을 도입하여 운영하기 시작했다. 오늘날 가장 대표적인 프로그램으로 여겨지고 있는 유럽문화수도 프로그램은 30년 넘게 운영되어 오면서 유럽 시민들로 하여금 유럽정체성을 고취하는데 크게 일조한 것으로 평가받고 있다. 이 논문에서는 2018년 유럽문화수도로 선정된 발레타가 운영한 Valletta 2018의 사례를 중심으로 이 문화이벤트가 유럽정체성 형성에 미친 영향을 살펴본다.

In order to complete the European integration, the European Union(EU) learned that it is essential to raise European citizens interest in the integration process. For this purpose, the EU has been running various cultural programmes since the 1990s. The European Capital of Culture(ECOC), one of the most representative cultural programmes, has been evaluated to enhance European citizens belongingness to the EU for the past 30 years since its implementation. This paper focuses the case of Valletta 2018 and examines the impact of the cultural event on the creation of European identity.
