청소년의 자아개념과 시민의식의 종단적 관계

Longitudinal relationship of Self-concept and civic consciousness for Adolescents

본 연구는 다변량 잠재성장모형을 적용하여 청소년의 자아개념이 시민의식에 영향을 미치는지 종단적 인과관계를 검증하기 위해 수행되었다. 연구에 필요한 데이터는 경기도교육연구원에서 2018년 8월에 제공받아, 2019년 6월부터 9월까지 수행되었다. 먼저 청소년의 자아개념의 변화 궤적은 이차함수 모형이 가장 적합한 것으로 나타났다. 구체적으로 자아개념은 초등학교 시기에는 증가하는 경향을 보이다가, 이러한 증가세는 중학교에 이르러 점차 감소되며 이러한 발달 궤적은 개인차가 존재하는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 청소년의 시민의식의 변화 궤적은 이차함수 모형이 가장 적합한 것으로 나타났다. 즉 시민의식은 초등학교 시기에는 증가하는 경향을 보이다가 이와 같은 증가 경향은 중학교에 이르러 점차 감소되며, 이와 같은 발달 궤적은 개인차가 존재하는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 자아개념과 시민의식에 대하여 다변량 잠재성장 모형을 적용한 결과, 자아개념의 초기치는 시민의식 초기치에 정적 영향을, 시민의식의 일차함수 변화율에 부적영향을, 시민의식의 이차함수 변화율에 정적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 자아개념의 일차함수 변화율은 시민의식의 일차함수 변화율에 정적 영향을 미치며, 시민의식의 이차함수 변화율에 정적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 자아개념의 이차함수 변화율은 시민의식의 이차함수 변화율에 정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 청소년기의 자아개념과 시민의식의 발달 및 자아개념과 시민의식의 종단적 구조 관계에 대한 논의와 시사점을 제시하였다. 본 연구의 결과를 토대로 청소년의 자아개념과 시민의식의 증진을 위하여 사회심리적 특성까지 고려한 청소년 시민교육 정책의 개발을 기대한다.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the longitudinal causality of the adolescent s self concept and civic consciousness by applying multivariate latent growth model. First, the growth model of self concept for the adolescents were found to be suitable for the quadratic function growth model. Specifically, the change in self concept of adolescents increased in elementary school but decreased in middle school, following the form of quadratic function. These adolescents’ developmental trajectories of self concept were found to have individual differences. Second, the growth model of civic consciousness for the adolescents were found to be suitable for the quadratic function growth model. Specifically, the change in civic consciousness of adolescents increased in elementary school but decreased in middle school, following the form of quadratic function. These adolescents’ developmental trajectories of civic consciousness were found to have individual differences. Finally, a result of applying the multivariate latent growth model were as follows: Initial self concept had a positive effect on the initial civic consciousness, a negative effect on the rate of linear change of civic consciousness and a positive effect on the rate of quadratic change of civic consciousness. The rate of linear change of self concept had a positive effect on the rate of linear change of civic consciousness, a positive effect on the rate of quadratic change of civic consciousness. The rate of quadratic change of self concept had a positive effect on the rate of quadratic change of civic consciousness. Based on these results, the longitudinal structural relationship of self concept and civic consciousness in adolescent citizenship development was discussed and suggested implications.
