김찬국의 삶과 신학 ― 그의 예언자 이해를 중심으로

The Life and Theology of Chan-Kook Kim — Focused on His Understanding of the Prophets

우리는 구약 시대의 특징적 종교 현상으로 예언 현상을 들며, 그 시대를 야웨 하나님 신앙으로 이끈 대표적인 지도자로 예언자들을 꼽는다. 그들은 야웨 하나님의 종으로서 시대를 온 몸으로 앞장서서 살아간 인물들로서 하나님과 이스라엘 백성 사이에서 하나님의 대언자와 중재자의 역할을 하였고, 당시 사회 속에서 결코 정치적으로 주도 세력에 속했기보다는 주변인의 위치에서 사회 구성원들을 신앙 공동체의 구성원으로 인도해나간 신앙적 지도자들이었다. 구약의 예언서를 전공한 김찬국, 그가 바로 우리 시대의 정의, 자유, 평화, 사랑의 예언자 아모스, 호세아, 이사야, 하박국, 예레미야와 같은 구약의 예언자의 가르침을 연구하여 이를 자신의 행동으로 계승하는 역사의식이 투철한 행동하는 “예언자적삶의 신학”을 형성하였는데, 이는 바로 ‘하나님의 압제에서의 해방과 구원 행위’를 그 내용으로 하는 출애굽 전승에 그 뿌리를 두고 있다. 김찬국은 자신의 연구를 통해 이 예언자들의 가르침을 삶 속에서 구현하고, 역사적 현장에서 정의와 평화의 추구, 인간 사랑의 인권 운동을 통하여 한국 사회를 정의, 자유, 평화, 사랑의 공동체로 만들고자 노력하였다. 그의 신학은 역사적 현실에의 적용을 전제로 한 성서 해석에 바탕을 둔 행동하는 사회 개혁의 신학이었고, 그의 신학의 내용은 인간 해방, 인간 회복, 인권 존중, 개인과 사회 구원이었다. 우리나라의 민주화와 인권 운동에 헌신한 구약학자 김찬국은 이 땅에서 정의, 자유, 평화, 사랑의 사도로서 예언자적 삶을 성실하게 산 예언자였다.

The prophets were considered the representative leaders who led Israel, the people of God, with the faith of Yahweh in the Old Testament period. They were the people who personally lived as the servants of God and played the role of messenger and intercessor between God and the people of Israel. Chan-Kook Kim, who majored in the Old Testament prophets, studied the prophets of the Old Testament such as Amos, Hosea, Isaiah, Habakkuk, and Jeremiah, the prophets of justice, freedom, peace, and love of that time, and formed a “theology of prophetic life” which has its roots in the tradition of Exodus. Through his research, Chan-Kook Kim realized the teachings of these prophets in his life and tried to make Korean society a community of justice, freedom, peace and love. He pursued justice and peace in Korean society and human rights for humanity. His theology was the theology of social reform based on his biblical interpretation which was founded on its application to historical reality. His theology focused on human liberation, human restoration, and human rights for the social salvation. He didn’t merely teach the message of the prophets but lived it as well. Chan-Kook Kim, an Old Testament professor devoted to the democratization and human rights movements of our country, was a prophet who faithfully lived a prophetic life as an apostle of justice, freedom, peace and love in Korea.
