Development of Cosmetology Course Model as Curriculum for General Education: Focusing on the use of Organization of the NCS-based Training Course

  • 142

This study attempted to develop a cosmetology course model for general education through which college students with interest in appearance management are able to learn how to care well for their looks. The course model was designed based on the curriculum flowchart, using the NCS learning module according to the course-organizing method proposed by the Ministry of Employment and Labor. The training program was divided into four courses: hairdressing, aesthetics, makeup and nail care. The details are as follows: In hairdressing, the straight or C-curl volume style can be created. In aesthetics, facial mask, facial keratin care and eyebrow care programs are available. In makeup, students learn base makeup, eyebrow makeup, eye makeup and lip & cheek makeup. In nail care, nail coloring skills (e.g., full coat, French, deep French, graduation, etc.) in addition to basic nail care techniques (e.g., free edge design and cuticle trimming, etc.) are offered. This study proposed a curriculum development model and courses for general education through which college students are able to receive cosmetology education in a systematic manner. As a result, it is anticipated that they will take general cosmetology courses as a practical study and learn how to manage their appearance, which would in turn help them build confidence as well as enhance their interpersonal relationships and psychological satisfaction.
