세계영어(World Englishes)와 한국 영어교육에 대한 대학생들의 태도와 인식 조사

With the global spread of English, English has become a language of wider communication used by a third of the world’s population. Grounding world Englishes and English as an international language as a theoretical framework, the purpose of this study is to explore how Korean college students perceive issues related to world Englishes and English teaching/learning in Korea. This study also examines the attitudes and perceptions of college students toward different varieties of English in the Expanding Circle. For the purpose, quantitative data from survey questionnaires of 526 respondents were gathered. Also, qualitative data from interviews of 20 college students were collected. The results showed that Korean college students have positive attitude toward world Englishes. It also discusses the issue of which English should be taught in EFL settings such as Korea. The students need to have awareness of other varieties of English. Based on the findings, several pedagogical suggestions and possible future research directions are offered in the conclusion.
