청소년기 자녀를 양육하는 중년 부모의 가족관계가 우울에 미치는 영향

Effect of Family Relationships on Depression in Middle-Aged Parents with Teenage Children: Focusing on the Mediating Effect of Loneliness

본 연구는 청소년기 자녀를 양육하는 중년 부모가 느끼는 외로움과 우울에 부부관계(결혼 만족도, 결혼불안정성)와 부모-자녀관계(자녀친밀감, 자녀와의 갈등)가 영향을 미치는지 구조 모형을 설정하여 검증하였다. 또한 중년 부모가 느끼는 외로움이 예측요인들이 우울에 미치는 영향을 매개하는지 구조방정식을 통하여 검증하였다. 청소년기 자녀를 둔 중년기의 부모를 대상으로 자료를 수집하였다(n = 320). 연구 결과, 결혼불안정성, 자녀와의 갈등, 외로움이 결과 변인인 우울에 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났고, 결혼불안정성과 자녀친밀감은 매개변인인 외로 움에 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 결혼불안정성이 우울에 주는 영향과 자녀친밀감이 우울에 주는 영향에서 외로움의 매개효과를 검증하였다. 본 연구는 기존 문헌에서 많은 주목을 받지 못했던 청소년을 양육하는 중년기 부모의 외로움을 탐색했다는 데 의의가 있으며, 가 족생활교육, 부모교육, 혹은 가족상담에 있어서 부모의 정서와 자녀와의 관계를 돌보는 것의 중요성에 대하여 논의한다.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the antecedents of loneliness and depression in middle-aged parents. The antecedents include marital relationship satisfaction, marital instability, intimacy with children, and conflict with children. This study also examined whether loneliness mediated the relations between the antecedent variables and depression using structural equation modeling. The participants were middle-aged parents with teenage children, and the data were collected using survey questionnaires( n = 320). The results showed that marital instability and intimacy with children predicted loneliness, and marital instability and conflict with children predicted depression. As for the results of the mediation effect, the relation between marital instability and depression were mediated by loneliness. The relation between intimacy with children and depression was also mediated by loneliness. The implication of this study is that it explored loneliness in middle-aged parents, which did not receive much attention in the literature. The importance of taking care of emotions and relationships with children in middle-aged parents is discussed.
